Day 7 – Pray According to God’s Word
John 15:7 - If you abide in me and my words abide in you, ask whatever you desire, and it shall be done for you. (NKJV)
Scripture is the ideal way to hear God’s voice together. The Bible is the authoritative Word of God, “given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction and for instruction in righteousness.” (2 Tim. 3:16 NKJV)
Therefore, the Bible is our “plumb line” to discern whether what we believe God is saying to us agrees and aligns with His written Word. Scripture teaches that God exalts His Word above all His Name. (Ps. 138:2 KJV).
Read John 15:7 out loud. Jesus’ promise to supernaturally respond to us rests in the condition that His words abide in us. Leanne Payne adds, “God speaks to us in what can only be described as supernatural ways when the imperishable seed, the Word of God, is continually hidden away in our hearts.” (LP, 26)
Remember, the Word of God is “alive and powerful” and “judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12) The Apostle James tells us to “receive with meekness the engrafted Word.” (James 1:21) Mary’s response to the angelic visitation was simply, “Be it unto me according to Your Word.” (Luke 1:38)
Try this: Select and read a passage of Scripture out loud, listening carefully to what it says. Meditate silently on what was read. Then, listen for God to speak a thought, idea, image, impression or understanding about what you read. Submit those to your gathered prayer community without comment, allowing each individual to concisely state what they heard in that reading. Conclude by using that Scripture as a prayer response to the Father.
Pray This Prayer Today: “Heavenly Father, thank you that your Word expressly says (read the Scripture aloud). Thank you for speaking to us today through this Scripture. May we receive what we’ve heard, apply it as you desire, and respond in obedience. In Jesus Name, Amen.”
